Most of those who died were in Sonoma County. Vineyards, which mostly occupy the valley floor, appear to have been largely unscathed as the fires in Napa County burned mainly in the hillsides, McGaughy said. Many of those names were put on the list after people called from out of state to say they could not reach a friend or relative. Many of those who returned to find their homes either standing or reduced to ash knew their fate in advance. (more...)

More than four-fifths of Indian has faith to the government, but, fascinatingly, the majority also wants military rule and despotism, a report of Pew survey said on Monday. Ironically, Pew believes, "The status of the economy is strongly related to people's trust in their government". Though, ultimately, democracy was favoured by most as the best way to govern nations, the support for "strong leaders" and their "autocratic" governments is certainly a cause for concern, particularly among ... The leak reportedly killed three workers who were repairing the refrigeration plant at the municipal ice rink. Streets surrounding the arena were also closed. The leak happened at the Fernie Memorial Arena on Tuesday. In an email, Trish Knight Chernecki from WorkSafe BC called the incident "a tragic loss of life". (more...)

He said two unidentified youths asked the two assistants and the driver of the singer to come out of the auto and later shot her in the vehicle, according to PTI. The 22-year-old was brutally murdered by unidentified attackers in Chamrara village, the police said. While around 137,000 customers are estimated to be without power, with crews deployed around the country. "The storm is expected to pass through our region by early afternoon and we'll continue to monitor it closely and be ready to support our customers should it cause any further damage to our network".
