The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon, after police were called to a home off Natalia Cove in Cedar Park, a major Austin suburb with a population of about 80,000 people. Police in Texas say "multiple" officers have been injured in a shooting in Cedar Park, 20 miles outside downtown Austin. Police are asking residents to "avoid Bagdad Road between Osage and New Hope". Pierce County reported 61 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the overall case total to 5,995. Sunday's numbers were a 1.1% increase in total cases, a 1.6% decrease in active cases and a 4.2% increase in recoveries. Men between the ages of 20 and 29 were the largest group, with six reported coronavirus cases. The backlog in cases emphasizes the need for people to stay home, wear masks and social distance, especially while awaiting COVID-19 test results, Jenkins said in a statement. (more...)

In a clip posted Friday by Fox's animated series " The Simpsons ", matriarch Marge chided the attorney over a tweet comparing her voice to that of the Democratic vice presidential contender, Sen. Ellis , senior lawyer for President Donald Trump's reelection campaign, did not immediately respond Friday to a request for comment. Democratic Party strategist Adam Parkhomenko also said the Trump campaign "has been destroyed" by the iconic show's character. (more...)

With a single-day spike of 63,489 coronavirus cases, India's total tally reached 25,89,682 even as its death toll climbed up to 49,980 with 944 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) data said on Sunday. Pollster and blogger David Farrar said in a post on Kiwiblog that with Auckland still in lockdown for another 12 days, an election in September would be "madness", predicting a near record low turnout if it went ahead. Mr Williamson gave a "triple lock" commitment that students could use the highest result out of their teacher's predicted grade, their mock exam or sitting the actual exam in the autumn. Mr Williamson ruled out following the Scottish Government in reversing position. "You've got to have a system that has checks and balances, that looks at the whole performance and making sure you maintain standards within the exam system, to ensure those results carry credibility". Given this stalemate in negotiations, we will address this very issue in the next Executive Order. Kemp claimed that the mandate was not enforceable, but Bottoms continued to uphold her order. Anyone who violates local mask rules must be warned about the health risks of not doing so before a citation is issued, according to the order. The lawsuit filed July 16 asked a judge to overturn Bottoms' orders that are more restrictive than Kemp's, block her from issuing any more such orders, ... (more...)
