The incident at the Wangfu Central Primary School happened at 8:30 am when children would normally arrive for class. Chinese state media identified the attacker as a security guard at the school surnamed Li. "Around 8.30am, I heard loud screams and cries from the school as I live nearby". I rushed in to get my boy out. The suspect, who is in his 50s, has been detained by the police . (more...)

Some 40 cities across the United States have imposed curfews to curb acts of violence in extensive demonstrations against police brutality and racism. Ventura and Santa Barbara County officials say at this point, there are no plans for curfews. As of 1:15 p.m., a peaceful protest is underway along Ocean Avenue between Montana and Colorado. Writes the filmer: "The Tropical Storm Amanda that hit the Central American territory has left serious damage and death due to the floods and overflows of rivers in different points of El Salvador". The BBC reports that the storm destroyed many homes and displaced around 4,000 people, forcing them to seek refuge at shelters. The environment ministry said the rains had left up to 500 millimeters of water, nearly a third of the yearly average of 1,800 mm. (more...)

Floyd, 46, died last week after Derek Chauvin, one of four officers involved in his arrest in Minneapolis, kneeled on his neck for almost nine minutes. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has issued arrest warrants for the three other officers involved in Floyd's death and has also requested that bail be set at $1 million for all four officers involved. Obama recently penned a moving essay that offers people everywhere a bit of hope in the wake of George Floyd's killing, and all of the subsequent rallies and protests the tragedy has inspired. "President Barack Obama's calm voice of reason has been missed and is very appreciated at this time of crisis", wrote one commenter. The department accused China of unfairly blocking the carriers' attempts to resume service in that country.
