The acting Navy secretary spoke shortly after Defense Secretary Mark Esper told Reuters that the Pentagon would no longer be disclosing in granular detail where cases of COVID-19 in the us military have been detected. Seven passengers have tested positive for Covid-19 aboard the Artania , which had been due to travel onward to South Africa but is now anchored near the port of Fremantle. Shipowner Britain's Cruise & Maritime Voyages said it was carrying no unwell passengers or staff. Two other cruise ships are in nearby waters. As per worldwide media reports, 800 people will be housed in the existing and vacated island, which includes a hostel, bungalows, cabins and dormitories. (more...)

There were 1,073 return global passenger flights scheduled to come to China this week. It added that there may be even further reductions to inbound and outbound worldwide flights if the pandemic deteriorates. The drastic cuts in global flights add to the quarantines imposed by Beijing, Shanghai and at least half a dozen Chinese cities and provinces that operate worldwide airports, that put all visitors in mandatory 14-day quarantine, regardless of their points of origin. As part of that trilateral agreement, Canada has also agreed to send so-called "irregular" migrants who cross the border somewhere other than at an official port of entry back to the United States. China on Wednesday downgraded the risk level of the coronavirus in its epicentre Wuhan from high to medium and resumed bus services within the city for the first time since the nine-week lockdown.
