Their jail time included the several months they were detained ahead of what was a swift trial, part of a wider crackdown on gambling in China. He said Dr Yang could endure "round the clock interrogation" in an attempt to force a confession. Born in the northern province of Nan, she graduated from the Royal Thai Army Nursing College, trained as a pilot in Thailand and overseas, and served in the king's royal bodyguard unit, reaching the rank of major-general in May. The ruling significantly strengthens restrictions on elephant trade, with the animals now only able to be taken from the wild to be placed in "captive facilities" under exceptional circumstances and subject to approval from a Cites committee.
