The projected path of the storm will keep any strong winds well offshore of the U.S. Wednesday afternoon, Jose and Katia were both upgraded to category 1 hurricanes with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Hurricane Jose is strengthening in the Atlantic. Hurricane Katia made landfall on Friday near the working-class beach resort of Tecolutla in the state of Veracruz on the Mexican Gulf coast, the U.S. Katia is now one of three active hurricanes in the Atlantic, as well as Jose and Irma. The storm has been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 177 kmh uprooting trees and causing insane amounts of destruction. Florida Power & Light restored power to more than 1 million customers after the storm, but it will be "days" before the electric utility can give customers an estimate of when all of the tri-county region's power will be restored, the company said Monday.
