Hurricane Jose is strengthening in the Atlantic. Hurricane Katia made landfall on Friday near the working-class beach resort of Tecolutla in the state of Veracruz on the Mexican Gulf coast, the U.S. Katia is now one of three active hurricanes in the Atlantic, as well as Jose and Irma. Tropical storm Katia formed in the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. (more...)

The storm has been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 177 kmh uprooting trees and causing insane amounts of destruction. Florida Power & Light restored power to more than 1 million customers after the storm, but it will be "days" before the electric utility can give customers an estimate of when all of the tri-county region's power will be restored, the company said Monday. As Irma continues to hammer the Southeast, our weather remains rather nice to start the work week. According to the National Weather Service , Jacksonville is under a flash flood watch until Monday morning. But, it will likely only be in the form of light rain and wind gusts that probably won't make it to 30 miles per hour. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible. (more...)
