American workers have long called for reforms to end these visa abuses, and today their calls are being answered for the first time". Arkansas carried out its first execution in 12 years on Thursday night following a flurry of court filings. Legal rulings have put some of the others in doubt. The state Supreme Court reversed a ruling by a lower court in favor of a drug supplier. GM announced the plant confiscation Thursday, saying its plant in Valencia, Venezuela , "was unexpectedly taken by the public authorities, preventing normal operations", according to Voice of America . Total auto production in Venezuela fell to a historic low of 2,849 cars in 2016, almost 75 percent less than the year before, according to Venezuela's automotive industry group. (more...)

Just two days ago French authorities arrested two men in Marseille who were allegedly planning an attack in a run-up to the election . The attacker was also killed and may have had accomplices. On Friday, French authorities said a suspect sought by Belgium police, who was suspected of having planned to travel to France on Thursday, had handed himself in at a police station in the Belgian city of Antwerp. Other officers opened fire, killing the assailant. One of the wounded officers was critically injured but is improving, he said.
