Officials at the Pentagon declined to disclose where the strike took place in Afghanistan, how many F-35Bs were involved in the operation or why the fighter jet was chosen for the mission. Lockheed Martin began production of the F-35 in 2006, a program marred by cost overruns and delays. The program was started in the late 1990s when the aircraft was known as the joint strike fighter. A video on social media shows people screaming and running in fear as the wave sweeps through Palu. Indonesian disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the quake also caused a tsunami to hit another city, Donggala. The largest shock - with a magnitude of 7.5 - was detected 50 miles north of Palu, according to USGS. Other pictures showed major damage to buildings, with rubble strewn about the road and large cracks running through pavements. (more...)
