Russian Federation has tried on several occasions to issue warrants for Browder in the past to no avail . Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko has died after being shot near his home in Kiev, Ukrainian police say. The Bell, a respected Russian media start-up, said it did not always agree with Babchenko but called him "a principled, passionate, fearless man and journalist worthy of respect". (more...)

A National Police spokeswoman said Browder was taken to a police station to check on the Russian arrest warrant - but that officers found that the order was no longer valid and that he would be released . It's not exactly clear why Browder was arrested on Wednesday. Mr Browder later said he had been released after the Interpol general secretary in Lyon advised Spanish police "not to honour the new Russian Interpol red notice". (more...)

China says it is within its rights to build up defenses on islands in the South China Sea that it believes are its sovereign territory. Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian lawmaker and adviser to the interior minister, said in a Facebook post that the gunman was waiting for the journalist in the stairwell of his apartment building. He was reportedly shot several times in the back. The Investigative Committee of Russian Federation said it had opened a criminal case into Mr Babchenko's death. (more...)
