Emergency agencies have warned that recovery from Harvey could take years. Local, state, and federal resources have been deployed to help Texas recover. Heavy rains for several days in the same area are a recipe for unsafe flooding. Early Sunday morning, the mayor announced that 120 members of the FDNY's Incident Management Team and the Urban Search and Rescue Rapid Response Team had been deployed to assist Texas authorities on the ground. The team is self sufficient for 72 hours, Aseltine said. "I believe we're ready to face any danger". It assisted after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the massive quake in Haiti in 2010, and rescued or evacuated more than 100 people hit by Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina a year ago. (more...)
