Greek pilot who murdered British wife consoles her mother hours before confessing

Crouch murder

The death of Caroline Crouch, 20, drew worldwide headlines when her husband Babis Anagnostopoulos offered a shocking story of hooded robbers torturing and killing his wife while he was tied helpless to a chair in their home in Athens.

Police said Anagnostopoulos had confessed but his lawyers have so far made no public comment.

Her husband, Babis Anagnostopoulos, 33, staged a robbery, calling police to say that he and his wife had been tied up by robbers who killed her after breaking into the property looking for valuables.

The couple's infant daughter was found unharmed, and the family dog choked to death on its leash, authorities said.

"We had an argument that night". At some point, she threw the child in her cot and she told me to get up and leave the house.

Greek police have now confirmed that the husband confessed to killing the young mother after she threatened to leave. She pushed me and punched me.

Just days after his wife was killed, the pilot posted a tribute to the 20-year-old on his Instagram with a photo of the pair on their wedding day in 2019.

"I can not describe it".

"Police are doing their job and they will catch them". I hope this will not happen to anyone else, ' he said. "I hope what my family and the family of my wife has been through will not happen to anyone again".

Police had issued a €300,000-euro (£256,000) reward for information on the crime.

Hassiotis said forensic experts established the time a memory card had been removed from a security camera, adding to the evidence against the pilot.

He was transported to Athens by helicopter from the nearby island of Skiathos, and interviewed for more than six hours before police announced that he was a suspect.

Although he told investigators the robbers had tied him up, investigators found that he had had used his phone during the time frame and an activity tracker on the phone showed him moving about the house, the BBC reports.

Anagnostopoulos played the game for as long as he could, even posing as a grieving husband on social media with statements like "sad that our daughter will grow up without remembering her handsome mother, who was the joy of my life".
