Ocasio-Cortez Raises Security Concerns After Confrontation With Controversial Congresswoman

"They scream when that happens, I was talking to AOC saying 'you need to debate me about the Green New Deal, ' that's her legislation, she should be able to defend it for the American people".

The 31-year-old Ocasio-Cortez did not stop to address Greene outside the House chamber, simply throwing her hands up in response to Greene chasing after her, the report states.

"Representative Greene tried to begin an argument with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer", the spokeswoman said in a statement to the Post.

Greene later told reporters that Ocasio-Cortez was refusing to debate her and was therefore a "chicken".

"And now it's revealed that this person showed up to members of Congress' doors with folks from the mob who infiltrated the Capitol, beat Capitol Police, and strung up nooses in front of the House", Ocasio-Cortez added.

Earlier this year, after social media posts surfaced of Greene seemingly endorsing the execution of Democratic politicians, the House voted to strip her of her committee assignments, but did not vote to expel her as some Democrats have demanded.

The video is reportedly from a Facebook Live video that the Georgia congresswoman streamed herself during a visit to the Capitol before she was elected to Congress, according to CNN.

Former Michigan congressman Amash quit the Republican Party and became an independent during his last term in office.

According to The Hill, Ocasio-Cortez's office is now calling on fellow House members to ensure Congress remains "a safe, civil place".

Greene has been a lightning rod for controversy since even before entering Congress in January, in part because of her past support of the freaky QAnon conspiracy theory. "Trust the science." She also misgendered Newman's daughter on Twitter. In the 2019 video, Greene says more conservatives should come to Washington and confront lawmakers. 'She wants to control the House'.

"MTG has continuously lied about her behavior, even though you've had previous lawmakers claim they have been threatened by this", Alemany said of Greene's pattern of behavior.

This is not the first confrontation Greene has had with a Democratic member of Congress that has caused them to raise safety concerns.

Greene's office did not immediately return a request for comment.

The incident prompted Bush to ask Democratic leadership if she could move her office away from Greene at a time when the Georgia congresswoman was already under heavy scrutiny for her rhetoric and behavior.

"I would think everyone should be asking her why she can't defend her policy. I hold her to her word, as well as her actions going forward".

Continuing to speak through the mail slot of Ocasio-Cortez's office, Greene says she is appalled at New York's abortion law and tells the congresswoman she is "bringing god's judgment on our country".

Two of the most high-profile members of the House-one on the left, the other on the right-are the focus of a flurry of news coverage on Thursday.

Yet so far, Republicans have shown little appetite for punishing Greene.
