‘Thrown back into winter’ - freezing weather creeping in over bank holiday weekend
"Gardener's hearts are in their mouths through April as they anxiously scan the weather forecasts for frost warnings ready to rush out and cover vulnerable plants to ward off damage".
The warm weather streak will continue through Easter weekend with highs in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees for the Denver area and in the upper 50s to low 60s for the mountains. Saturday night will be dry with clear spells, and some patches of mist and fog.
The end of the bank holiday weekend will herald colder weather, however, with the Met Office forecasting bands of cold Arctic air moving across the United Kingdom from the north west by Sunday, bringing snow showers and freezing overnight temperatures. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.
Friday will be a dry day with widespread sunshine.
"Saturday will be another dry day with good spells of sunshine and highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees, again coolest along the north and east coast due to a light north to northeast breeze".
The outlook for tomorrow is also bright, with the day starting with sunny intervals, and dry periods.
Easter Sunday will be dry over much of the country with the best of the sunshine in the south. Rain will develop in the northwest later in the morning and will extend across the northern half of the country during the afternoon and possibly further south into the evening.
The record high for Denver for Saturday April 3rd is 78 degrees, set in 1943.
"Sunday night will be cold and breezy". The day will kick off mild enough, before outbreaks of rain, hail and even snow are expected to fall in Ulster.
As a result, mercury will range from between minus two to two degrees, with frost expected in many places lasting into Easter Monday, during which "wintry showers" could be possible. Some wintry showers may develop overnight on north facing coasts.
"The cold airmass will introduce the chance of wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow on Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday, with temperatures limited to around 3 to 7". Highest temperatures of five to eight degrees with light to moderate west to northwest winds'.
