Fully-vaccinated people may travel now: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Americans paying the price for gathering at Thanksgiving

The CDC admitted that whilst they would prefer if people stayed at home and avoid travel, they had enough evidence as to the effectiveness of the vaccines, which showed people could travel "at low risk to themselves".

About 157 million Covid-19 vaccine shots have been administered as of Friday, while more than 204 million doses have been distributed across the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

"There's several new babies in our family and it's just killing everybody that we haven't been able to get together and to see them", she said.

In Ontario, public health officials are recommending only essential travel and self-isolating for 14 days when arriving or returning to the province.

The fully vaccinated people are about 17.5 per cent of the whole population.

- Specifically, the new guidance today speaks to travel.

- For worldwide travel, the agency says vaccinated people do not need to get a COVID-19 test before leaving, unless the destination country requires it.

Airlines for America, a group representing major US airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air lines, United Airlines Southwest Airlines, and other trade groups had urged the CDC on March 22 to immediately update its guidance to say "vaccinated individuals can travel safely".

Masks are still recommended, along with social distancing and other precautions. The Transportation Security Administration reported more than 1.5 million travelers going through airports on Thursday, an increase of 400 percent since its lowest point in the pandemic in April, according to the TSA.

The CDC had repeatedly declined in recent weeks to change the guidance and repeated it was still discouraging all non-essential travel because of a concern about new variants. Additionally, they can gather with unvaccinated people without masks, but the visits should be limited to one unvaccinated household at a time. A one-shot vaccine by Johnson & Johnson was given the green light by regulators at the end of February.
