The new numbers pushed the rolling averages to 659 cases and 20 deaths a day.
There are now 273 active cases in the Vancouver Island region.
A third outbreak has been declared at Burnaby Hospital, and officials said the public health investigation into the COVID-19 exposure at Garibaldi High School has been completed. The remaining test-positive individuals are recovering at home in self-isolation.
"We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic", said provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix in a joint statement.
Wednesday's update put the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C.at 278 people, 80 of whom are in intensive care.
As of Wednesday, B.C. had administered 142,146 COVID-19 vaccine doses, 6,417 of which were second doses.
There were also eight new virus-related deaths, for a total of 1,218 deaths in BC.
On Monday, the COVID-19 vaccine became available to residents 70 years of age and over, as well as anyone with severe congenital, development or early-onset medical disorder. The outbreak at Heritage Retirement Residence is now over. Mathew had COVID-19 and now donates his plasma antibodies to treat people suffering with the virus.
The majority of new cases were from Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties with 161 and 95, respectively.
Fewer cases is a welcome sign for all of us and makes it all the more important to keep going with the fundamentals of staying local, staying small and staying safe right now.
Now, epidemiologists are working to identify close contacts of the individuals and said they will continue to monitor the individuals closely.
