Two US Capitol police officers suspended after Washington rampage

Seattle man charged with assaulting a federal officer at U.S. Capitol siege

President Donald Trump has ordered the USA flag to be flown at half-staff as a sign of respect for two Capitol officers who died, as well as all members of law enforcement across the nation.

Ryan said the vast majority of Capitol Police officers bravely defended that Capitol and put their lives on the line to defend Congress members, while its leadership failed to adequately prepare for the incursion where four protestors and one police officer died.

Ryan said at least 10 to 15 investigations are ongoing into the behavior of law enforcement during the attack on the Capitol, but indicated that there is no evidence suggesting an "inside job" from Capitol Police in assisting rioters, but rather "a handful of examples of sympathetic conduct", according to The Hill's Niv Elis.

Earlier on Sunday, Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican, said in a letter to Mr Trump that Mr Sicknick "laid down his life in protection of our democracy" and asked that the flag atop the White House be lowered to half-staff to match the one over the Capitol dome. The U.S. House is planning to vote Wednesday.

But Assistant Chief Yogananda D. Pittman took control of the agency on Friday, according to the agency's website. "You go to work in the morning, you're expected to come home at night and that did not occur", Krenzel said.

Anyway, in more tragic news: An officer with the Capitol police, Howard Liebengood, 51, has reportedly died by suicide following the violent event last week.

He had been assigned to the Senate Division and had been a Capitol police officer since 2005, they said.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Sicknick's death, but did not say whether they are seeking murder charges. A GoFundMe page has been created to help Sicknick's family and has garnered more than $500 thousand.
