Saban denies GOAT status: I'm 'beneficiary' of Bear Bryant's success
The Texans fired O'Brien as their general manager and coach on October 5, after an 0-4 start to the 2020 season.
Alabama is finalizing a deal with former Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien to be the Crimson Tide's next offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN.
You are dead wrong if you think the Sabanator is now the greatest coach of all time because he just won his seventh national championship to surpass the major-college record set by Bear Bryant. This season, Saban led the Crimson Tide to a flawless 13-0 record after securing his sixth national championship in 14 seasons at Alabama on Monday night, thanks to a 52-24 victory over Ohio State. O'Brien had coached the Texans since 2014.
"I've always tried to have the best knowledge and experience I can for our players and their development, and I certainly think [O'Brien] can contribute to that in a very positive way", Saban said.
"I don't really think there should be a comparison", Saban said on the "The Jake Asman Show" on SportsMap Radio. He produced five winning seasons and four playoff appearances in his first six seasons, compiling a 52-44 record in that span. Four of his predecessors - Major Applewhite, Jim McElwain, Lane Kiffin and Sarkisian - quickly became head coaches at other college programs, while Brian Daboll, now the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, may well get the top job with another National Football League team this offseason. He also spent time around the team last week leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
