Nio takes wraps off the ET7, its first ever all-electric sedan
The sedan isn't out yet - deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2022 - so we can't call it the first production model with one of these fitted, but considering there aren't too many announced until then, it might still be able to snatch the title.
Nio is coming off a stellar 2020.
Of course, you need a lot more than a ton of data to make a auto drive itself, and Nio seems fairly early in its journey to autonomy. With the battery pack, the starting price is 448,000 yuan. It's a powerful system comprising 33 sensor units including radar, lidar and high-resolution cameras, as well as four NVIDIA Drive Orin computers, and a vehicle-to-infrastructure communications system.
The base model is equipped with a 70kWh battery, good for 500km of range (NEDC), going up to 100kWh and 700km (NEDC), while a 150kWh pack will be available later in 2022 - that's the one with a projected 1,000km+ range!
Pure and sophisticated, ET7 is designed for autonomous driving, perfectly integrating design with the autonomous driving sensing units. And this new battery brings a range of more than 1000kms as compared to the max 900km range on the previous models. There is also a heating option for all the seats. The world's first in-car AI system NOMI also keeps involving.
The speaker set of the auto is also very impressive coming with a total of 1000watts output taking the sound system of vehicles to different standards.
Nio also took the opportunity to introduce its Aquila Sensing ADAS tech packed into the ET7, which can see further, react faster and overall provide a larger safety net, courtesy high resolution cameras, longer-range LiDAR and more goodies poking out from the body of the ET7. NAD's full functions can be subscribed with AD as a Service (ADaaS) for a monthly subscription fee of RMB 680. Enabled by the advanced mass-produced solid-state battery technology, it can achieve an ultra-high energy density of 360 Wh/kg.
As is the case with Nio's other vehicles, the ET7 can have its battery swapped, via Nio's own network of Nio Power battery stations. No times for the 150-kWh unit for now. The ET7 can even boast an NEDC range of over 1,000 km. You simply drive into the station and an automated system handles the swap. The company plans to introduce a total of 500 swap stations in 2021. The Power Swap 2.0 box, says Nio, will charge and swap as many as 312 batteries a day, running a diagnostic on each vehicle to identify faults early. The ET7 is no exception and there are now 177 power swap stations in China that offer the service. "NIO community is growing, while the love and trust from our users have always been the driving force behind our continued progress", said William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO. While Tesla "maintains its ambition to become a Volkswagen or Ford in electric-vehicle manufacturing, we will insist on producing premium cars", he said.
As we wait for the new releases by the company, the Nio day live event is on.
