Markieff Morris gets ejected after altercation with DeMarcus Cousins
Los Angeles Lakers forward Markieff Morris has been fined $35,000 and Houston Rockets center DeMarcus Cousins has been fined $10,000 for their roles in an on-court altercation, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.
It was obvious the end was nearing Wednesday, when the Rockets told Harden they didn't want him at practice after his inflammatory comments about the team.
Harden, the 2018 NBA MVP, has scored 20 points or fewer in each of the past four games - his longest such stretch since 2011-12.
Harden made it clear to owner Tilman Fertitta before the season that he did not believe in the franchise's direction and ability to contend and preferred to be traded to a team that was in a better position to win, sources said.
By the time Rockets head coach Stephen Silas motioned for a timeout with 4:57 remaining in the first quarter, James Harden had already reached his breaking point.
"I love this city". I've literally done everything I can. "I mean, this situation is insane". I don't think it can be fixed.
"We're not even close, honestly, to that team - obviously the defending champions - and all the other elite teams out there", he told a news conference.
"We're just not good enough - chemistry, talent-wise, just everything".
