Imola returns as Australia, China postponed

F1 postpone 2021 season opener in Australia and Chinese Grand Prix amid Covid-19 travel restrictions

Due to the country's strict coronavirus rules, the race has been moved to 21 November.

"Congratulations to the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and the Victorian Government for working so hard to ensure that Formula 1 comes to Australia in 2021".

The Italian circuit is tipped to host its 2021 race on 18 April, with the news to be announced by the president of the Emilia-Romagna region, Stefano Bonaccini, at 9.15am.

Australia's new date of November 21 means the season will be extended by one week, with the campaign closing in Abu Dhabi on December 12.

If it can avoid further disruption from the pandemic, it is set to remain F1's largest-ever calendar with 23 races.

When is the Bahrain Grand Prix?

The races were the first and third on the calendar and the reconfigured season will begin at the second race venue in Bahrain between 26 and 28 March.

The new season was scheduled to start on March 21 with the Australian Grand Prix, which is traditionally the opening race of the year.

The minister said that the postponement of four-day Grand Prix event at Albert park was a sensible decision that would mean more Victorian race fans could come as well as potentially inter-state and overseas visitors to the event.

The global pandemic hasn't yet allowed life to return to normal, but we showed in 2020 that we can race safely as the first worldwide sport to return and we have the experience and plans in place to deliver on our season.

The Chinese Grand Prix, initially slated for April 18, was postponed as current travel restrictions made the scheduled date impossible.

F1 bosses said they will "continue to work closely with our promoters and partners to monitor the ongoing Covid-19 situation" and expect spectators to return to the trackside at some point during the 2021 season.

"It is great news that we have already been able to agree a rescheduled date for the Australian Grand Prix in November, Domenicali added". Last year's race in Australia was canceled after one team member tested positive for the coronavirus.

"We are very excited to announce that Imola will return for the 2021 season and know our fans will be looking forward to the return of Formula 1 after the winter break and our revised season opener in Bahrain".

The sport then came up with revised 17-round season in just 23 weeks, with Lewis Hamilton clinching a record-equalling seventh world championship.

Races planned for this year's F1 calendar.
