Group of lawyers demand suspension of Rudy Giuliani’s legal license
Rudy Giuliani has admitted that his associate sought $20,000 (£14,600) per day from the Trump campaign in return for his efforts to overturn the USA election result - representing a price hike of 10 times the usual sum, according to a report.
According to The Times, which has seen a copy of the email allegedly sent to at least three Trump campaign officials from a Giuliani Partners account, it stated the firm was drafting an engagement letter and, rather than a typical daily fee of $2,000, "we will contract for $20,000 a day which will include all of the expenses for Mr Giuliani and his staff".
"I never had a single expectation of being paid a penny", Giuliani told the Times.
None of the dozens of legal cases Giuliani has brought in battlefield states has come to fruition, as he has never provided evidence of widespread electoral fraud.
In his conversation with Haberman, Giuliani blamed Trump's other advisers, calling them "incompetent" in the lead-up to the election and said he felt bad he was being portrayed as a "money-grubbing ambulance chaser". Giuliani did not divulge the status of their relationship during his interview.
He has also been alleged of motivating Trump supporters to engage in "trial by combat" after the former President diverted them to riot inside the US Capitol.
Giuliani told ABC: 'Because I gave an earlier speech [at the January 6 Trump rally], I am a witness and therefore unable to participate in court or senate chamber'.
Giuliani, a former New York City attorney and mayor, has been widely criticized for his role at the helm of Trump's failed attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
A message was left with the committee seeking comment.
In their complaint, the group calls for the committee to investigate Giuliani's conduct, including his comments at a rally before rioters stormed into the U.S. Capitol, and to suspend his law license immediately while any investigation is underway.
Giuliani is also facing possible expulsion from the New York State Bar Association over the incendiary remarks.
Shortly afterwards, Mr Giuliani announced he would no longer be serving on Mr Trump's impeachment team. That can only be done by the courts.
