Frigid temps this weekend; tracking possible snow for early next week
After this storm moves out of the area we can expect to return to fairly mild winter weather.
On the heels of a week that brought the Southland dry conditions and Santa Ana winds, cold and wet weather will be moving into the region starting Friday, bringing a slight chance of rain and mountain snow. We've had a lot of clouds in the sky today, but the clouds which are approaching our area tonight and tomorrow will bring valley rain and mountain snow showers by sunrise Friday.
Then after a quiet daytime on Saturday, the NWS is watching the potential for a few waves of snow, first on Saturday night into Sunday and next Sunday night through Monday, with accumulations possible in both.
This storm will be good for the snow pack in the local mountains which is below normal according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
Two to four inches of snow and ice - or more - is projected to hit the midstate during during hours-long Monday storms, forecasters said. Highs this weekend are expected to only be in the low- to mid-30s.
As cold air shifts eastward this weekend in the wake of the fast-moving clipper storm, the stage will be set for a wide area of accumulating snow in the Midwest Saturday and Sunday.
