"Election" star Jessica Campbell dies at 38

Jessica Campbell

The Election star died unexpectedly last month, her family has confirmed to TMZ.

According to The Mirror, a full autopsy examination has been carried out by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner, however, her family is still waiting on the results to find out exactly what caused her unexpected and tragic death. Later that night, she collapsed in the bathroom and was unable to be revived.

Earlier that day Jessica had told her family she felt congested and thought she was getting a cold but did not think it was COVID-19.

Campbell leaves behind a 10-year-old son named Oliver, and Wessling has set up a GoFundMe page to both providing for Oliver and paying for "cremation, memorial, and probate expense". Our hearts go out to Jessica's loved ones during this hard time.

The former actress was working as a naturopathic physician.

Jessica rose to fame after starring in Election alongside Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Broderick and Chris Klein. Campbell received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance for her work in the film. To get revenge, Campbell's character runs against him for class president.

She went on to star in more films including The Safety of Objects and Junk before she made a decision to quit her acting career. And "due to a strong family history of cancer, she knew that she wanted to focus on integrative cancer care". She was 38 years old. Campbell was described as "a true adventurer in every sense of the word", packing "a staggering amount of experiences into her tragically short lifetime".

Election director Alexander Payne and Freaks and Geeks executive producer Judd Apatow were among the top donors listed on the GoFundMe - and there has been no shortage of tributes to Campbell. Seen here, Jessica Campbell (as Tammy Metzler).
