Celtic Players Forced To Isolate Following Team Trip To Dubai

Celtic's match against Hibernian to go ahead despite isolation of 14 players, Neil Lennon and his assistant

The Scottish champions confirmed defender Christopher Jullien tested positive but had noted that all other players and staff members were negative after being checked following their return to Scotland from a training camp in Dubai on Friday.

A whole 14 players were missing on Monday as they were forced to self-isolate following Christopher Jullien testing positive - while Neil Lennon and John Kennedy were also missing.

The rest of the Celtic squad have tested negative, but were in close contact with Jullien during flight and team coach travel.

Kennedy and manager Lennon are among those now isolating, meaning they will not be on the touchline for tonight's clash with Hibs, which has been given the go ahead.

Speaking last weekend, assistant boss John Kennedy admitted the club were guilty of "minor slip-ups" in response to Covid protocols during their time in Dubai.

The Hoops are now 22 points behind Rangers, who have four games in hand on their rivals but face an uphill battle to complete Ten in a Row. 'We wish Christopher a speedy recovery.

Celtic have shown no contrition for trip to Dubai

The club's statement thanked "Scottish FA, JRG and the Scottish Government for their assistance in managing" the positive case in question before going onto give the reasoning behind the trip to Dubai as "performance" enhancing. After last weekend's defeat to Rangers, Celtic made a decision to controversially fly out to Dubai for a warm weather training camp.

"Clearly we are hugely disappointed, as we know our supporters will be".

HIBERNIAN have had a request rejected by the SPFL after they requested ALL Celtic players eligible tonight be retested ahead of the tie.

'It is the same format as previous years, obviously with one significant difference being the protocols in place for Covid, but we hope that we get the same lift from it and can go on another great run in the New Year as we did last season, that's our real focus just now'.

With all football below Scotland's top two tiers halted due to rising coronavirus cases, this news had thrown Celtic's match against Hibernian into doubt.

Stressing that the trip had been arranged with the approval of the Scottish Government and the football authorities, though, Lennon said its only objective was sporting benefit.
