Armie Hammer exits upcoming movie role amid alleged social media scandal

Armie Hammer Exits Jennifer Lopez-Co-Led Shotgun Wedding

"Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision", said a production spokesperson.

The Instagram messages purportedly came from the actor's official account but it's now unverified and it must be noted that at this point it's all conjecture: we don't yet know if it all of the screenshots are really from Hammer.

The role will be recast.

Armie Hammer has stepped away from his role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming Shotgun Wedding, decrying "vicious and spurious online attacks" against him as the cause. The messages, which have not been verified yet, are alleged to be from the actor and claim to depict his sexual fantasies including rape and cannibalism. Some of these "masty" messages that made their way online included, "I need to drink your blood".

After leaving the film, the On the Basis of Sex actor responded to the cannibal claims, calling them "bullshit".

Since the initial messages shared over the weekend, more have come to light, with one exchange where it looks like Armie is claiming he wanted to keep a woman's toe. I want to eat you.

Armie Hammer pulls out of film after social media controversy

Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers, married for a decade and together 13 years, announced their divorce in July.

Jessica was pictured on a date with Hammer late a year ago.

"But in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I can not in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic". Naturally Jennifer Lopez will be playing Darcy, and we'll have to wait and see who replaces Armie Hammer as Tom.

"Lionsgate is supporting me in this", he added.

In 2017, Hammer found himself embroiled in another social media scandal when he liked a series of graphic tweets about BDSM and bondage practices, apparently unaware that his Twitter likes were publicly visible.
