Anne Hathaway wants people to stop calling her "Anne"-and she revealed the surprising reason why!"
Anne recently revealed one of her biggest challenges being a mother in the midst of the pandemic.
"Call me Annie. Everybody call me Annie, please", the "Locked Down" star, 38, implored the late night talk show host.
Before she was Andy Sachs and even before she was Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldo, Anne Hathaway was just Annie - and in a new interview, she explained that she wishes that she'd gone by Annie since the very beginning.
"I've known you for a pretty long time now", Jimmy said. My name is Anne Hathaway.
Referring back to her first commercial at the age of 14 where she was asked what name she wanted on her Screen Actors Guild card, she opted to go with her birth name, not realizing it would follow her for the rest of her life.
"People are like 'Anne!' And I'm like 'What?"
"The only person who calls me Anne is my mom and she only does that when she's really mad at me, like really mad", she continued. "I've heard people call you Annie, like your good friends".
The "Princess Diaries" star replied: "Call me Annie!".
"Anything but Anne", she said to Jimmy Fallon when he asked if he should call her Anne or Annie, her preferred nickname. She doesn't want to be called "Anne" anymore! "But it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life people would call me Anne".
"It doesn't fit, I'm an Annie".
Hathaway said that being called Anne reminded her of her mother, Kate McCauley Hathaway, being angry at her.
The actress, on Tuesday, said that she was into vintage fashion and made a decision to wear her mom's pair of metallic gold disco shoes to school. "I'm an Annie. And so people call me, like, Miss H; people call me Hath".
Anne has been happily married to Adam Shulman since September 2012 and together they share two young sons: four-year-old Jonathan and one-year-old Jack, who was born in November 2019.
