Spinach and eggs recalled in Ontario, Quebec over possible salmonella
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled several products sold at Metro locations across Ontario for possible Salmonella contamination.
The CFIA is verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
"The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product was possibly contaminated with Salmonella subsequent investigation indicates that the problem may have been caused by contamination of a part of a lot of baby spinach", according to the recall notice posted by the FDA.
The recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
The affected products are 312-gram and 142-gram containers with a "best before" date of December 4 or December 5.
28, the CFIA reported no illnesses associated with the consumption of the recalled products.
The recalled baby spinach comes from the Fresh Attitude brand, produced by Vegpro International, the largest producer of fresh vegetables in Canada, which also distributes to the U.S. All other Fresh Attitude products sold in the US are produced in Florida and are not associated with this recall in any way, so there is no concern over any other Fresh Attitude products.
However, those with better health may experience less severe symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Otherwise, healthy adults are usually sick for four to seven days.
Young children, pregnant women, seniors and people with compromised immune systems are particularly at risk as Salmonella can lead to deadly infections.
