BC reports 46 deaths, 2,077 cases over grim weekend
British Columbia lost another 46 lives to COVID-19 over the weekend, health officials announced Monday in a sombre coronavirus update.
The majority of the new cases were in Fraser Health with 1,365 cases.
During a press conference on Monday, BC's Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said she was "contacted by many faith leasers this weekend to talk about some of the issues that we are dealing with".
Of those cases, 8,472 were considered active, including 301 people who were in hospital for treatment, 69 of whom required critical care.
"We all feel your loss and we mourn with you", she said.
569 people have recovered from the virus in Northern Health bring our recovery rate to 67.3%.
"My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of each of these people - each of the husbands, wives, sons, daughters", Henry said.
"If you are thinking it may be ok to bend the rules, please remember this virus takes lives and it is the lives of those who are closest to us that are most at risk when we take risks".
"For the many occasions and daily life activities that we would normally do together, we must stay apart".
A total of 212 cases were found within Interior Health.
There have been five new health-care facility outbreaks and two outbreaks have been declared over. Currently, there are 57 active outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living and five in hospitals.
"People have followed the orders and used the important layers of protection because it is a responsibility we have to each other and our fellow citizens, and is how we show we care". Most people are wearing masks.
