Record 1,336 new COVID-19 cases in Alberta, nine deaths

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe called the record 439 new cases in his province on Saturday "very concerning", adding the seven-day average for new daily cases is the highest it's ever been at 203.

Three of the remaining deaths were in the Calgary Zone including a man in his 70s as well as a woman in her 60s whose death is linked to the Foothills outbreak and a man in 90s whose death is linked to the Carewest George Boyack outbreak.

A woman in her 20s from the South Zone is among the nine deaths announced Saturday.

Another man in his 70s from the south zone, whose death is linked to the outbreak at AgeCare Sunrise Gardens, has died.

Ottawa, Nov 22 (IANS) Amid the ongoing second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Canada, some of the country's province have reported record high single-day confirmed cases, according to health authorities. A total 471 people have died from the virus.

There are now 320 people in hospital (an increase of 10), and 56 of them in intensive care.

It was another record-breaking day related to COVID-19 in Canada.

In addition, Nova Scotia confirmed a significant jump in their case-count, recording its highest number of positive tests in months.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province's chief medical officer of health, urged Albertans to follow mandatory and voluntary health measures. "The need to control our spread and protect our health system is why I ask everyone, anywhere in the province, to abide by all public health measures", she said. The next in-person update from Hinshaw is expected Monday.
