NVIDIA GeForce NOW Lands on iOS, Will Bring Fortnite

GeForce NOW on iOS requires a gamepad

Apple said that Epic violated its App Store rules and removed Fortnite from the store, igniting a legal and public relations battle in which Epic has sued Apple and alleged its App Store rules and fees amount to anticompetitive conduct. The game's launch on the platform will happen soon, according to Nvidia. "Coming soon, GeForce Now will connect with GOG, giving members access to even more games in their library". On iOS, users can just visit the GeForce Now web app on Safari and from there, they can stream their games using any of the controllers supported by iPhone and iPad, which includes the DualShock 4 and Xbox One gamepad. Fortnite isn't quite ready to be streamed yet, Eisler said, due to the team's commitment to bringing a touchscreen experience to the popular battle royale-with some help from the game's devs. However, Fortnite isn't ready for the iOS version of GeForce NOW quite yet, and Epic and Nvidia are working to bring improved touch controls to the game. "Members can look for the game on iOS Safari in the near future".

The streaming service will be available in the US and Europe, according to Nvidia's FAQ, but there are already plans to expand worldwide. Currently, you need to use a launcher app to use Nvidia's service on the PC or Mac. Simply fire up the browser, head to play.geforcenow.com, sign into your account, and start gaming. We'd expect it to function seamlessly for the most part, but because it's not officially launched yet, don't be surprised if you run into some kinks.

While Apple's walled garden makes it really hard for companies to bring cloud gaming to iPhones and iPads, alternative solutions keep being discovered, and NVIDIA just came up with a very simple approach. You can download the official Stadia app on an iPhone or iPad, but it's basically just a tool for browsing the store, messaging friends, and more. Some games are also available for free on the platform, while others have to be bought individually for their regular price, and some come included in the Stadia Pro tier, which costs $10 a month and also gives gamers access to a higher resolution experience with improved audio.
