On Thursday, four JeM terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. "The group of terrorists infiltrated via the global border and were moving towards Kashmir valley in a truck".

The injured policemen have been identified as Kuldeep Raj (32) of the special operations group (SOG) and senior constable Mohammad Ishaq Malik of Ramban.

A cavity had been fabricated in the truck with registration number JK01AL1055 to hide terrorists and the arms and ammunition they were carrying.

The terrorists are suspected to have infiltrated through the global border somewhere near Samba district of Jammu and boarded the truck with a cache of arms, ammunition and Pakistan made medicines.

Director-General of Police Dilbagh Singh said, "by successfully eliminating all four terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist outfit we have foiled an attempt made by the Pakistan based terrorist outfits to sabotage peaceful conduct of District Development Council (DDC) polls beginning Nov 28 in Jammu and Kashmir". "We are providing security to the candidates and they have started going to the field for campaigning from yesterday and there is nothing to fear", he said.

Following the operation, 11 AK-47s rifles, 3 pistols, 29 grenades and other devices were recovered.

At least two Indian police officers were wounded during the clash that took place at a toll plaza in the Nagrota area in Kashmir's southern city, police said.

Earlier on January 31, 2020, three terrorists were gunned down by the security forces while they were moving towards Kashmir valley and were intercepted by the security forces in a similar manner.

Modi added that the security forces' action was an example of the "utmost bravery" and professionalism.

CRPF and police personnel moved to search the vehicle and came under fire of the terrorists hiding in the truck.They retaliated resulting in an encounter.

"A day after four Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on November 20 that security forces had thwarted a major terrorist attack in the Union territory".

He said there were apprehensions about militants targeting the elections, but the security forces were fully prepared to deal with the situation.
