Latest Space Station crew docks in record time following successful launch

Russia's Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft left for the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday morning, carrying Expedition 64 astronaut Kathleen "Kate" Rubins and cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov.

The oxygen generation system (OGS) has failed in the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS), according to the crew's talks with the Earth, broadcast by NASA.

Expedition 64, which launched today, however, docked with the station just around three hours after leaving Earth from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

There are now six crew members staffing the ISS, including cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, as well as NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy, who were already on the station. The trip was an ultrafast, two-orbit one, thus the trip to the ISS took only three hours.

Speaking at a pre-launch press conference on Tuesday, Rubins did not directly reference the SpaceX flight when asked how she felt to be on board during a new era in spaceflight.

The previous leak was discovered by ground control when Then the USA crew moved to the Russian part of the station, the modules were sealed, and their atmospheric pressure was examined. "We'll continue to train crews over here and we're going to have cosmonauts come to the Johnson Space Center and train".

"We will take with us additional equipment which will allow us to detect the place of this leak more precisely", he told reporters.

"We have a very strict quarantine, nearly from March by my perception", said Rubins, a microbiologist who researched the deadly Ebola virus before she began training as an astronaut. It follows a successful Demo-2 mission earlier this year. The delay is meant to give SpaceX more time to conduct tests and review data from an aborted Falcon 9 launch earlier this month.

A NASA TV commentator said everything was normal, citing communications between Russian mission control and the crew, while Roscosmos said the capsule had successfully gone into orbit.
