Lakers signing Montrezl Harrell to 2-year, $19M deal

Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell Leaves Clippers to Sign with the Lakers

The agreement comes as sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell left the Clippers to agree to a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

NBA.com's Scott Rafferty had Harrell ranked as the fifth-best free agent in the class.

Free agent Tristan Thompson still hasn't struck a deal with a team. Both sides are interested in getting it done, according to people with knowledge of the talk. According to the people, Harrell turned down a larger offer from the Charlotte Hornets to play with James and the Lakers. His numbers dipped in the playoffs to 10.5 points and 2.9 rebounds.

The Clippers guard later congratulated the big man on the signing.

He averaged 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 27.8 minutes a game and shot 58.0 percent from the field. He's a 38.1% three-point shooter over his 11-year career.

Harrell is represented by agent Rich Paul, who also represents Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Harrell became one of the most coveted unrestricted free agents when the LA Clippers saw their season come to an abrupt end at the hands of the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs.

However, it appears the Cleveland Cavaliers could lose the center to the Los Angeles Clippers after Friday's bevy of free-agency action.

Howard will play for former Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who is the new 76ers coach.
