India nears nine million coronavirus cases

India is now witnessing a steady decline in cases from its peak in September, with the country reporting fewer than 50,000 daily new infections during the last 13 days. The recovery rate has moved up to 93.6 percent with mortality rate at 1.5 percent.

India is witnessing another surge in COVID-19 infections after a brief period of less number of cases.

India on Wednesday reported over 45,000 coronavirus infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 86.9 lakh cases. "It has ensured that India's present active caseload of 4,43,303 consists of just 4.95 % of the country's total cases", it said.

This is the twelfth consecutive day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day.

Delhi: 5,03,084 total cases, 7,943 deaths, 4,52,683 recoveries.

According to the health ministry update, in addition to exceeding nine million confirmed cases, some 584 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 132,162. Over 43,000 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.A total of 10,75,326 test have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

India is only the second country to cross 9 million coronavirus infections, after the United States, but cases have slowed down in the country after hitting a peak in September.

Kerala also reported a staggering 6,419 new cases. The count of active cases remained unmoved at 4,45,804 on Friday while it had increased by 346 last Saturday (November 14).

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 12,85,08,389 samples tested for COVID-19 up to November 18, of these, 10,28,203 samples were tested yesterday.

The curfew, which begins at 9:00pm and ends at 6:00am, will be in force until further notice, said Rajiv Kumar Gupta, the senior government official in charge of managing COVID-19 in Ahmedabad.

Globally, there are 58,494,754 cases and 1,386,570 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
