Health Department implements travel, mask COVID-19 mitigation efforts

Although this is a requirement, admittedly it logistically will not be able to be enforced.

Levine also added that she does not plan on returning Pennsylvania to the Red, Yellow and Green status plan that was implemented earlier this year and encouraged all state residents to stand together in this effort.

"Masks are a simple yet very effective way to limit your exposure to COVID-19", Levine said.

When indoors, masks will now be required even if you are physically distant from people not in your household.

Like the rest of the nation, Pennsylvania has seen coronavirus infections explode in recent weeks.

"Right now, that means following these orders and guidance in terms of stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania".

"These targeted mitigation efforts, combined with existing ones, are paramount to saving lives and protecting our economy", Gov. Tom Wolf said.

Yesterday, Levine announced further mitigation efforts to help stem a sharp increase in the number of cases of Coronavirus.

The first measure is focused on acute care hospitals and provides an outline of expectations to care for Pennsylvanians who need care during the pandemic. "Hospitals should also be working to move up elective procedures or prepare to reduce them".

Levine said masks have been required indoors and outdoors when social distancing can not be maintained but said the department is now ordering mask wearing indoors anytime one is with people outside of the household, even if they are socially distanced.

If someone can not get a test or chooses not to, they must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Pennsylvania.

The changes include an order mandating that travelers visiting Pennsylvania from another state, or Pennsylvanians visiting other states, must get a negative COVID test within 72 hours before entering the state, or otherwise quarantine for 14 days. The order does not apply to people traveling back and forth for work or medical treatment.

"I think it really comes down to each and every one of us, and what we choose to do", said Levine at the press conference.

Masks are required to be worn indoors and outdoors if you are away from your home.

When outdoors, masking is required if you're unable to remain physically distant from someone not in your household the entire time you're outdoors.

The order applies to gyms, schools and food preparation facilities though churches were not specifically included.

These recommendations include establishing routine protocols for testing.

"We have no plans at this time to be checking for tests as people come off airplanes or drive into Pennsylvania", Levine said. "It depends upon the public, each one of us taking our responsibility for the common good of everyone in Pennsylvania", Levine said. "Wear a mask, wash your hands, stay apart and download the COVID Alert PA app". You can view the recommendations here.
