Environment Canada issues snowfall warnings as storm hits Ontario, Quebec

Winter Weather Advisory counties shaded in purple

Environment Canada warns that total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm are possible in the region today into tonight.

Environment Canada says travel is expected to be impacted and motorists should be prepared for winter weather driving conditions.

Environment Canada explains, this heavy snow is due to a strengthening low pressure system that is tracking northeastward across the lower Great Lakes. The Canadian Farmers' Almanac predicts that the province is in for plenty of freezing rain and ice during the festive season.

"We're looking at the heaviest snow part to be this evening. The snow will continue throughout the night, and eventually taper off Monday morning", said Mengesha.

The agency explained that a snowfall warning is issued when "significant snowfall is expected".

But the white stuff probably won't stick around, since rain is expected Monday.

The high for Sunday will be 2 C, with a wind chill of -3 in the morning.

The prediction for Monday is periods of snow ending in the morning then mainly cloudy. The high will be 5 C.
