Disturbing new details in alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Gov. Whitmer

Lee Chatfield and Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey criticized the Governor for the partial shutdown saying the people of MI deserve input on these decisions.

"If Congress does not act, nearly half of a million people in our state could lose access to these critical benefits that have served as a lifeline for these people and their families", Whitmer said.

"If we can get this moving in the right direction, it's very possible", she said.

(Senate Majority Leader Mike) Shirkey said Tuesday: "I have not signed on to any notion of impeachment proceedings".

Gathering indoors with people outside of our homes and not wearing masks is exactly how this virus spreads, Whitmer said.

The resolution was introduced by GOP Rep. Beau LaFave, along with Reps Matt Maddock and Daire Rendon. Compliance also protects essential medical workers and first responders, Whitmer said.

The bid further accuses Whitmer of being guilty of "corrupt conduct in office and crimes and misdemeanor" after she and the department of Health and Human Services issued a three-week order limiting indoor social gatherings which take effect Wednesday. The need will only grow as COVID-19 infection rates increase in every region of the state.

The resolution was referred to the Government Operations Committee. Those steps were being taken to stop the accelerating spread of Covid-19.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is holding a news conference Thursday where she is expected to discuss the growing number of coronavirus cases in MI, a day after new safety restrictions aiming to prevent the spread of the virus took effect.

Coronavirus cases have been on the rise in MI, which has reported almost 278,000 confirmed cases of the respiratory illness and 8,190 deaths attributed to it.

Even though prominent Republicans in MI have opposed the bid, they too have been frustrated with the governor's shutdown.

"That's the thing we can't quantify and predict accurately", she said.

These actions, she said, are both targeted and meant to be temporary, following the steps public health experts say are needed to avoid overwhelming hospitals and reaching death counts like we saw in the Spring.

'As always, we stand ready to act in a bipartisan way when the governor decides it is worth her time.

However, that's unlikely in this case as Democrats control 42 percent of the seats in the state Senate.

"The President has spent more energy spreading untruths about the election outcome than he has listening to health experts and protecting American people", Whitmer said.
