COVID-19 restrictions: What you need to know

State orders curfews for San Diego County, other COVID-19 purple tier counties

"The virus is spreading at a pace we haven't seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge".

California has now recorded four consecutive days with at least 10,600 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, a stretch unlike any in the pandemic.

Ghaly said the state's decision to issue the month-long curfew had more to do with the state's current surge in cases rather than the potential for large gatherings during Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays. Over the last week, the state has averaged 10,529 new cases per day, a 117% increase from two weeks ago.

Hollywood - 30 new cases for a total of 1,683 cases.

The county said it expects cases to continue to surge, and officials said they plan to further tighten regulations if necessary.

"Maybe you're a worker who's out at night with a group of friends, outdoors even, and you contract COVID and then you go the next day to work and it is passed on, maybe not the next day but a day or two later, to a vulnerable resident in a congregate care facility", he said. According to the order, members of the same household are allowed to leave their homes after 10pm, however, they are not allowed to interact with anyone from outside their household.

Starting on Friday, the county will attempt to control the spread of COVID-19 by tightening restrictions at businesses and gatherings.

California is imposing an overnight curfew on most residents as the most populous state tries to head off a surge in coronavirus cases that it fears could tax the state's health care system, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday.

As the Examiner reports, the curfews take effect on Saturday and extend for one month, until December 21 - though this order may be extended.

"In light of the steep surge in positive cases we are now experiencing, and as with other COVID-19 orders created to protect the most vulnerable members of our community, the city of Fresno is asking our residents to voluntarily comply with the state's limited stay-at-home directive", Brand said.

Now 41 of the state's 58 counties are in the purple tier.

Newsom's latest order has the same restrictions as the one he imposed in March, except that this time they are limited to certain counties and are only in effect from 10pm to 5am.

Since Monday, the county has issued 52 cease-and-desist orders for businesses not in compliance.

"We've seen in the past that COVID goes from zero to 60 miles per hour very quickly", he said during a briefing on the new stay-at-home order, adding that "all tools are on the table". "We may need to take more stringent actions if we are unable to flatten the curve quickly".
