Apple to Pay $113 Million to Resolve Claims Over iPhone Battery

MI will get more than $2.6 million as part of the settlement, a news release said Wednesday. This was reported by the owners of the new smartphones, and then the company itself acknowledged the problem.

Those who brought the lawsuit to the courts disagreed, claiming that Apple deliberately slowed down iPhones to encourage upgrades and the sale of newer models.

Apple admitted as far back as late 2017 to slowing down older iPhones in order to prolong their lives and prevent problems with batteries that may result in unexpected shutdowns.

This new fine was announced on Thursday morning in Arizona, the culmination of a lawsuit brought by more than 30 USA states. As part of Wednesday's proposed settlement, Apple admits no wrongdoing.

Unlike regular software updates that are available for a number of iPhone models, iOS 14.2.1 is exclusive to the iPhone 12 series. In addition to the fine, Apple also legally committed to greater transparency. "Big Tech must stop manipulating consumers and tell them the whole truth about their practices and products". "I'm committed to holding these goliath technology companies accountable when they hide important information from users".

This isn't the first time the company has been brought to task over alleged iPhone slowing. In March, Apple agreed to more than half a billion dollars to settle a class action lawsuit accusing it of slowing down iPhones to compel users to buy new ones.

Apple said these problems were causing sound quality issues when listening to audio from an iPhone. Most users reported that they noticed the issue in group threads, either when someone responded to a message they hadn't seen or reacted to it, per reports on the issue on Apple's community forum.
