Zverev downs hobbled Harris to make Cologne semi-finals

US Open runner-up Alexander Zverev clinched the Cologne ATP title on Sunday beating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3. Zverev grabbed a break in the first game when Auger-Aliassime netted a backhand and held at love with a service victor to open an early lead.

"Felix, you're an unbelievable player".

Zverev said he and Auger-Aliassime had bonded while practicing together in Monaco during the coronavirus pandemic, and he predicted a bright future for the Canadian.

Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated second-seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the semi-final to reach the summit clash.

"I think playing him will be a good match, a good battle, and I'll try to get my revenge after a heartbreaking loss at last year's Davis Cup", Auger-Aliassime said. Zverev was leading 6-4, 1-0 but lost two of his four service games as Harris forced the third set.

At the Sardegna Open, Marco Cecchinato routed Danilo Petrovic 6-1 6-0 and will face Laslo Djere in the final after Lorenzo Musetti retired in the third set with a right elbow injury.

The seventh-ranked Zverev next faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Bautista Agut came out on top for 2.5 hours to beat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-0, and Auger-Aliassime had less difficulty against Radu Albot, winning 6-3, 6- 0. The Spaniard defeated Dennis Novak 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Victory gave Zverev his 12th ATP title and his third on home soil after he won the Munich Open in 2017 and 2018. All three of the finals that the 20-year-old Canadian has played this year have been on indoor hard courts.
