Coronavirus vaccines are under trial in India and other countries as well.

The Russian partner also pledged to supply data from the clinical trial of Sputnik V conducted in Russia, saying it will help "further strengthen the clinical development" of the vaccine in India.

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has given approval to Dr Reddy's, a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in India, to conduct phase 2 and 3 clinical human trials of the Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine. The number of cases saw a dip 11,776 since Saturday. While Sputnik V is now undergoing Phase-3 clinical trials involving 40,000 volunteers in Russian Federation, a Phase-3 clinical trial of the vaccine has also commenced in the UAE last week.

Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev said "We are pleased to collaborate with the Indian regulators and in addition to Indian clinical trial data, we will provide safety and immunogenicity study from the Russian phase 3 clinical trial".

Currently, there are three vaccine candidates undergoing human trials in India. "After detailed deliberation the committee recommended that the company should follow the regulatory requirements and conduct Phase II/III clinical trial in the country with proper monitoring for humoral & cell mediated immune response", the committee had said while asking Dr Reddy's to submit a revised proposal with the protocol for conducting Phase II and III studies.

A booth displaying a coronavirus vaccine candidate from China National Biotec Group (CNBG), is seen at the 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), following the Covid-19 outbreak, in Beijing, China September 4, 2020.

The phase 3 efficacy trials are expected to take longer as researchers have to wait for sets of volunteers to develop the coronavirus disease and demonstrate that the proportion falling ill in the recipients' group is significantly smaller than those in the non-recipients' group.

The Expert Group, in consultation with states, is working actively on prioritisation and distribution of vaccines.
