The Siberian tiger, also known as the Amur tiger, is a subspecies of the big cat that can be found in the Russian Far East, northeastern China and potentially into North Korea.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is developed and produced by the Natural History Museum, London, where an exhibition opens on Friday October 16, before touring across the United Kingdom and internationally to venues in countries including Australia, Canada, Denmark and Germany. The photo was clicked at Leopard National Park, in the Russian Far East. Today, although threats from poachers and logging remain, up to 550 Amur tigers roam their old territories. It also won the Animals in their Environment category.
