Revamped PlayStation Store Ditches PS3, Vita, PSP Content

PSN Store

In essence, the main difference between the official announcement and the rumored emails that circulated last week (which were targeted toward developers and partners) is date of the changes to the web PSN store: October 21, 2020 instead of October 19, 2020. Sony has started to inform its users of its decision.

An email being sent to PlayStation users today announced that Sony will be introducing a new PlayStation Store on web and mobile later this month.

In the new period, those who access PlayStation Store via web or mobile will not be able to purchase applications, themes and avatars even for PS4.

Also included in the purge is the ability to buy Apps, Themes, and Avatars, and the Wishlist feature. Once you get it, you'll no longer be able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP games and add-ons on a computer or a phone. Players will be able to access the store via their console and continue to purchase games.

As development focus shifted to the PlayStation 4, optimising the PlayStation Store experience on previous platforms apparently became less of a priority. Here, players could add a "heart" to the games and follow the price changes in the games. With the PlayStation Portable losing access to its integrated store in 2016, PSP users will have to purchase content for their portable devices through a PS3 or Vita, the latter of which only has a fraction of PSP content in its catalog.
