Netflix to produce Assassin's Creed live-action series

ASSASIN'S CREED Live-Action & Animated Series Coming To Netflix As Part Of New Ubisoft Deal

Ubisoft and Netflix are also now working on the film "The Division" starring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, while the streamer has aired four seasons of the Ubisoft animated series "Rabbids Invasion".

Under the new agreement between Ubisoft and Netflix, the creators promise that the "first" entry in the series will be "an epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation" that "will tap into the iconic video game's trove of dynamic stories with global mass appeal for adaptations of live action, animated, and anime series". The search is now on for a showrunner for the first series, with Ubisoft Film & Television's Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik set to serve as executive producers. However, the company has confirmed that two Ubisoft bosses will serve in Executive Producer roles.

Netflix's NX account on Twitter announced the news this morning, alongside a quick teaser trailer. It's now on the hunt for a showrunner, which it implies that it's very early days for the project. No series director has yet been announced, but a search is now underway to find them. The streaming juggernaut has signed a deal with Ubisoft for multiple shows that explore the time-hopping saga.

Netflix original series vice president Peter Friedlander added, "We're excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin's Creed is beloved for".

"For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin's Creed brand into an iconic franchise", said Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television - Los Angeles.

Assassin's Creed does seem like a good fit for a Netflix series, and each season could even take place in a different location and time period, much like the games. Ubisoft had first launched the game in 2007 where it was then followed by over 10 game sequels.

Are you interested in a live-action Assassin's Creed series? (For now, let's ignore the fantastic live-action short that accompanied AC2.) In 2016, X-Men alum Michael Fassbender starred in Fox's Assassin's Creed film adaptation, a feature that pleased neither critics, fans, nor wider audiences.
