London and Other Regions with New Restrictions

London will go back into coronavirus lockdown from midnight Friday, with household mixing banned

United Kingdom health minister Helen Whateley announced the news to London members of Parliament in a call on Thursday morning, with Prime Minister Johnson expected to confirm it in a statement later in the day.

"Responding to this unprecedented pandemic requires hard choices, some of the most hard choices any government has to make in peacetime", Hancock told MPs.

London is to move to tighter "Tier 2" coronavirus restrictions at midnight on Friday.

Couples not living together and not in a support bubble may still meet outside, as long as they "follow social distancing and the hand, face, space rules", the spokesman said, according to the Birmingham Mail.

COVID-linked hospitalisations are rising, with 67 admissions on Monday, the highest figure since June 23.

"In London, we experienced the worst of COVID-19 back in the spring. So in central London the decision is easy - if there is no extra support, you will see businesses close and people made redundant", she says.

"But this is deemed to be necessary in order to protect Londoners' lives by myself, London council leaders and by ministers". "We've got a hard winter ahead", he added.

Meanwhile, it also emerged that Greater Manchester may be the next region to join Liverpool in Tier 3 or the very high alert level, which is akin to a complete lockdown.

Previously, most of England, including London, is placed in the first tier of the system, which means an alert level of "medium".

London will move from tier 1 to tier 2, or from "medium" to "high" alert, from 12:00am on Saturday under the new tiered system announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this week.

To bring life back to normal, countries, such as Britain, China, Russia and the United States are racing against time to develop coronavirus vaccines.
