‘Different guy’ Bale in line to make Tottenham return, says Mourinho

Noel Whelan claims it was "inevitable" Gareth Bale would return to Tottenham ahead of a potential second debut against West Ham on Sunday.

"Of course he wants to play", Mourinho said. "We care about him as much as he does for Tottenham".

Tottenham Hotspur host West Ham United in the Premier League today, and do so having made a new signing on Friday evening.

Mourinho's side have played some spectacular football, scoring five goals against Southampton, seven in the Europa League against Maccabi Haifa then half a dozen in a stunning 6-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford before the global break.

Bale ended a period in exile at Real Madrid by rejoining Spurs on a season-long loan last month, seven years after he left for Spain for a then world-record fee.

"It is great to listen from Serge who shared the dressing room with him in Madrid that he looks a different guy", Mourinho said.

Kane then capped off a scintillating opening act when he doubled his tally just beyond the quarter-hour mark, rising to meet Sergio Reguilon's exquisite cross at the right post and head home. "He wanted to play since the day he arrived, but it was not possible". All the decisions will be thinking first about the team but never forgetting what is the best for him.

"Probably he plays Sunday, if he doesn't he will on Thursday, but he's there, he's very, very close".

"It's a physical thing".

"What I can tell you is that he's working very well - probably he's working the way he was not able to do for quite a long time".

"We have a squad where every player has to fight a lot and play very well to deserve a place in the team", said the Spurs boss.

"They are happy that the squad is good, that people are coming to make the squad better".

The Brazilian was one of six new arrivals along with Bale, Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Joe Hart.

"In such a hard period, the club made an incredible effort".

"I want to take the chance to publicly thank my boss, my board, Mr. Levy, the structure and everybody involved in the transfer window because what they did for the team was wonderful".

"I understand the abilities Gareth Bale has got and what he can do, but it would be wrong to think about him and not about Harry Kane or [Heung-min] Son the way they're playing at the moment, because they're on fire".
