Dacia Spring Electric City Car Is Here To Electrify European Masses

Renault unveils first fully electric car under Dacia brand

The Dacia Spring Electric is guaranteed for three years and 100,000 km and its battery eight years and 120,000 km.

For weight optimisation reasons, this version does not have a spare wheel. The car's range is 140 miles in mixed driving and 183 miles in the city, according to the WLTP test, while the top speed is 78mph.

Launch edition versions get an orange colour pack to mark them out, which brightens some accents and trim pieces.

There's also quite a fair bit of standard safety features too, including a speed limiter, ABS, ESP, EBD, six airbags, an SOS button, automatic headlight activation and automatic emergency braking (operational from seven to 170 km/h). Folding the rear bench seat frees up 600 litres of luggage space. Users can use their phones to unlock the auto and for geolocation, while this version is quite well-equipped with smartphone mirroring, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The electric motor produces 217 HP and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque, powering the front wheels and delivering a 0-62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in under eight seconds.

Powering the Megane eVision is an ultra-compact electric motor good for 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW).

When you do eventually need to recharge the battery, the Spring has an onboard AC charger (Type 2 connector) that supports up to 6.6 kW.

To give it greater independence, Spring offers a wide choice of charging options: on a 220V home socket using the cable supplied as standard, on a Wallbox (with the available optional cable) or on a DC charging station (optional).

It also claims the electric powertrain is cheaper and more reliable to run compared to a traditional internal combustion engine, with the company going as far to say the Spring offers the lowest total cost of ownership on the market (electric and internal combustion vehicles combined).

The new auto will have a 140 mile range and will first launch with vehicle sharing services in Paris and Madrid as soon as January 2021, before going on general sale for private orders in spring next year, with first deliveries by autumn 2021.

The Cargo features a boot that extends where the back seat is usually located, with a plastic lining on the floor.

On the interior wheel arches, four anchor rings and a wire mesh partition separate the front passengers from the loading area.
