Chris Christie: ‘Every Public Official’ Should Advocate Wearing a Mask

WASHINGTON DC- SEPTEMBER 26 Attorney General William Barr says goodbye to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and other guests after President Donald Trump introducee 7th U.S. Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett 48 as his nominee to the S

Christie, a paid political analyst for the network, called not wearing a mask during the White House events an error in judgement.

"I believed that when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that I and many others underwent every day".

Christie tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month and checked himself into Morristown Medical Center as a precautionary measure.

Christie was also among those to help President Donald Trump with his debate preparation in a series of sessions at the White House where no one wore masks.

Mr Christie attended a Rose Garden ceremony on September 26 at which Mr Trump formally announced Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination to the Supreme Court, filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat.

"No one should be happy to get the virus and no one should be cavalier about being infected or infecting others", Christie said. I was led to believe that all the people I was interacting with at the White House had been tested. But I let my guard down and it was wrong. Everybody's going to make their own decisions on that but I think no matter what you're doing, whether you're at a rally for your preferred candidate whether you're out at the supermarket, whether you're at a protest, no matter what you're doing, you should have a mask on and you should try to remain socially distant from folks. "It was just a big mistake". He said he was treated with the antiviral drug remdesivir and Eli Lilly's monoclonal antibody combination therapy.

"I was put in the third row, and what they told us was that everybody in the first three rows had been tested that day and tested negative, " he said of the Barrett event in the Rose Garden on September 26. I think we should be even more affirmative about it, ' he said.

He said Covid-19 had hospitalized him for 72 hours but there was nothing to fear.

Mr Trump expressed approval of masks at a televised town-hall event on Thursday, as he faced a grilling from the public before he takes on Democratic challenger Joe Biden in November's presidential election. "We need to be telling people that there is no downside to you wearing masks, and in fact there can be a great deal of upside", Christie added.

"Psychologically, when you're in isolation, in the intensive care unit, with nothing to do but think, that part of it is very hard", Christie said.

The president insisted he supports masks and called Christie "a friend of mine". Christie stated, "I believe that these two steps can bring our country together while our pharmaceutical companies invent the therapeutics and vaccines which will rid us of this virus". "I stayed healthy. I didn't do it for four days and I wound up in the ICU".
