Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirms Edouard Mendy will not feature Southampton

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy

Mendy made his Premier League debut for the club during their impressive 4-0 win over Crystal Palace before the worldwide break, but will now miss tomorrow's encounter with Southampton at Stamford Bridge after picking up a minor injury whilst on global duty with Senegal.

Chelsea's Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante will be monitored after withdrawing from global duty, while Edouard Mendy is set to miss out after injuring his thigh in training with Senegal.

However, Lampard confirmed at his press conference on Friday that the Moroccan will play against Southampton.

And veteran defender Thiago Silva will be rested, having recently featured for Brazil.

"We don't expect the best game from us at the moment, but they are also struggling with a lot of players going on global travels, so the team that finds quicker in the game and better in the game has a big chance to win it". 'Chilwell is in the squad.

'Mendy won't be fit for the match tomorrow, we hope it won't be too long, ' Lampard confirmed. He's got over some of the feelings with the injury he has had for a while that took him out of England squad, so he's available for tomorrow.

Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech should both be fit, with the latter in contention for the first time.

Signings which Hasenhuttl has plenty of admiration for although he did acknowledge that alone doesn't make a winning formula, he said: "We see the signings and they are fantastic, but it is not surprising that other teams have more individual quality than we have or more expensive players, or higher wages". It's just game minutes that we need for him now.
